Deep Cleaning the Kitchen: What to do?

A clean and shining kitchen is something that we all look forward to but in reality, it is something different. Kitchen is one of those areas in your house which sees most grease, oil, and unseen leftovers. Those scraps and particles of food find a way in your kitchen without you even noticing and when it’s time for a quick clean, these manage to hide in plain sight. When it comes to deep cleaning, using kitchen cleaning products is something that automatically comes to mind. However you should know deep cleaning starts with a whole lot of preparation and ends with intention of regular follow up.

What should you do?

What you need to focus on are areas that are not cleaned that frequently. Aside from these areas you should also know which thing goes where. One of the most important things to do is to arrange everything in the kitchen. When you start stacking boxes high in the kitchen you’ll either loose count or you’ll forget which thing goes where. When this happens, a chaos erupts and within that chaos, germs and other food particles find ways to hide. So start with the cooking and baking cupboards. Lay out all the items on the table and then make sure that only those items remain in your kitchen that are of use, throw away the rest. Then wipe down everything and put things in air tight containers and if you can, then label.

What to do for refrigerator?

Same goes for the refrigerator or freezer that appears dirty. Take out everything. Check the labels. Throw out the expired or inedible produce. Focus on the area behind and under the produce drawers. Usually this is the place where different juices and leaking solutions find home. Arrange the items, remove the excess and place them back together but not before running a damp rag soaked in kitchen cleaner.

When you are done with arranging all the cupboards, drawers, and storage drawers then you’ll start to see how much space you have and what dirt was hiding underneath. Now is the time to bring out the big guns aka your go-to kitchen cleaning sprays. However, you should know what your surfaces are made up of and then act accordingly. Don’t go crazy with the use of disinfectants, for you might end up damaging your kitchen surfaces. Always read the label before using the product and know the contact time that is required for the cleaner to work effectively. Cleaners such as Dettol kitchen cleaner and others come with certain specifications so don’t miss out on them. The space behind the stove, your grill, under the cabinets, and sides of sink requires special attention so make sure you are keeping an eye out for these areas too.

Once you are done with cleaning, check if you have not missed a spot and then you can relax. Also make sure that you regularly clean your kitchen because if you are not doing so, you might undo everything that you have worked so hard for.
