Hygiene tips to follow on construction sites
Come to think of it, many people don’t pay attention to hygiene when the word construction comes to it. Most of the passerby or people outside of the construction industry think of wind blowing dust, heavy hammering, and loud drilling as the construction industry normal.
Though some
of it is true as yes, the construction industry workers are known for heavy
lifting and handling dangerous materials, without which our homes and
skyscrapers were never possible.
Susceptible to germ attacks
This
dangerous handling of material makes the construction industry workers
susceptible to germ attacks and other horrible outcomes. We are not talking
about construction site safety guidelines because that is whole another topic
and while one might be related with another, hygiene tips are usually
considered a different subject.
Worker safety
According to
health authorities that keep tabs on worker safety and hygiene expressed grave
concerns about the huge number of people being affected by dangerous
carcinogens and ingestible particles – those humungous piles of guidelines are
apparently failing to safeguard people right? No, it isn’t like it. Employers,
owners and at times workers themselves ignore these guidelines for an easy way out
which ultimately results in occupational hazard. Every year millions of workers
around the globe lose their lives due to work related incidents.
Handling suits
People who
are working in spray, paint, tan, or other aerosol producing industries need to
cover themselves in proper suits before they can work. That is not only for
safety purposes but also hygiene because as soon they get in the suit and start
doing their work. Their suits become contaminated externally and now if they don’t
take hygienic measures while handling suits they can get exposed to potential
pathogens.
Washing hands
Hand washing
stations with bar soap and water should be established at
different places throughout the construction site so that workers have access
to water before eating, drinking, smoking, or doing any other thing. Unwashed
hands might add to the problem.
The health
authorities believe that other alternatives not involving soap like hand
sanitizer and other air dryers are not as effective as bar soap and water. It
becomes really difficult to get rid of those tough stains and dark spills on
hands. Neither can one remove stains nor kills germs with these other methods
therefore it is more than important to wash hands frequently while on site. From
bacteria, mold, parasites, toxic plants, to dangerous animals, construction
workers can get exposed to any of these at any time during work. Think of the
dangers that these brave men/women are dealing with.
