Hygiene measure to follow in distribution centers

warehouse hygiene

Distribution centres are at the core of every organization and are therefore critically important. There's a lot of crates, the rustle of staff, and the whirring and whizzing of cargo handlers. Staff are busy getting the job done by loading and unloading cargo, whatever it may be, whether it is day or night. From meat boxes to luxury merchandise, from these distribution centres, all is dispatched. Usually, multinational companies have such centres in each nation and consider them an important part of the development chain.

Understanding the problem

Although it is easy to assume that there is a lot of trouble in these distribution centres, it is difficult to grasp the extent of germ activity that exists there. Boxes come from all over the world, and goods are shipped in from various countries for smaller centres, so a lot of bacteria and viruses can be expected inside these locations.

It was, in fact, noted that the recent outbreak of corona virus in Italy was due to negligence in the distribution centres in question. With the virus and their Italian counterparts, boxes coming in from China or workers or accompanying staff came in with the virus and their Italian counterparts, unable to grasp the seriousness accepted the products without any appropriate hygiene measures, which contributed to the catastrophe we see today.

This should make it clear to all of us that hygiene in distribution centres matters. First of all, management needs to ensure proper hand hygiene by telling all employees to wash their hands as soon as they come to work with bar soap and water. At the beginning of the work day, this would help them have clean hands and would not result in any pollution.

What can we do?

Through installing hand sanitizer dispensers in the distribution centres, management can take careful care of workers so that employees are able to sanitize every now and then. Air dryers should also be mounted in addition to these ones. Studies say that hand spreads account for about 80% of all kinds of communicable diseases, so you go there.

All surfaces, including those on which boxes rest, should be washed using the prescribed disinfectant cleaner. If possible, after spraying disinfectant on them, let all the boxes in, but it would certainly be a very difficult job for big warehouses where there are loads of storage space.

After using the toilet, make sure everyone keeps their hands clean before touching their eyes, nose, ears, or mouth, before putting on gloves, after taking out the garbage, and after everything that may lead to dirty hands. By enforcing strict guidelines in the centre, these acts should be strictly controlled.

So this is all about maintaining safe and germ-free delivery centres. Please let us know if you still have any questions. We would be more than happy to have you back.
