Using Antibacterial wipes, the right way

With the pandemic aka COVID-19, came the unnecessary urge to hoard sanitization products. People just wiped clean all the aisles in the mall in a pell-mell, which could have been easily avoided. Hand sanitizers, antibacterial wipes, and disinfectants were among the products that were hoarded. Now why did it happen, it isn’t necessary, why were only these hoarded… is. The answer to this question is that people believe that these products could save them from the virus. However, one should know that these products are only useful if used in the right way.

In order to understand the right way of usage, one should first understand what are antibacterial wipes? These are the wipes soaked in antibacterial solution or better yet, antimicrobial solutions. Now these are known for killing all sorts of microorganisms including the novel corona virus. These wipes can be used on all surfaces, from office to home and on all sorts of objects. Important point to know is the usage time.

Contact time

All sorts of disinfection or sanitization products have a contact time. It is the time that is required by the disinfectant to work effectively. Usually, all such products including antibacterial hand wipes come with a back label which includes the contact time, composition, and other instructions. Now, if you were to make a sweeping wipe with the antibacterial wipe and not let it sit on the surface or your hand, then you won’t get the desired results.

Different sorts

Killing germs require a certain time, approximately 3 to 10 minutes when it comes to surfaces. While using antibacterial wipes for skin, one should be cautious too. There are instructions on the backside of the product and product should be used in the intended way. For skin, the usage is different though. However, the intended effect is the same i.e. killing germs. Make sure that you are using the right product and following the proper instructions and then only you’ll get clean skin free of germs.

Using a quality product

Understanding the composition is also important. You can’t use an antibacterial wipe designed to clean surfaces on your hands and vice versa. You should also make sure that you are using a quality product such as Dettol antibacterial wipes. The regulation for these products comes from the authorities such as the environmental protection agency (EPA). Now, EPA announces composition and manufacturing instructions, both. The manufacturer has to comply else the product will not be regulated. Therefore, such products are effective at killing germs and ensure safety of the user. On the contrary, unregulated products are harmful and ineffective.

So the right way to use an antibacterial wipe is to know the contact time, the intended purpose, and following instructions. Make sure you are giving it the complete time to work on the right surface and then wipe it off.
